“The mark of a wild heart is living out the paradox of love in our lives. It’s the ability to be tough and tender, excited and scared, brave and afraid - all in the same moment. It’s showing up in our vulnerability and our courage, being both fierce and kind.”
Brene Brown Braving the Wilderness
Anyone who knows me knows I adore Brene Brown and her brilliant research on vulnerability. Brene’s work has given me the green light and a sort of permission slip to go bravely as my real, authentic self who balances the line between vulnerability and courage on a daily basis. It takes courage to follow your gut instinct and vocalize when something doesn’t feel right. It takes courage to go against the grain in a room full of people and have a different opinion that goes against the group think.
What I know now as a woman in my ahem early 40’s is that we can be courageous and brave without being angry. It took me a long time to realize this was possible or even to know how to go about it. I think when we are younger we need our anger to propel us forward in a sense. I know now that anger is a cover for vulnerability because somewhere along the line vulnerability got associated with weakness. There is nothing weak about living with a wild heart and feeling brave and excited all at once as Brene Brown so eloquently describes.
